Steve McRay - Studio Session Musician
As an experienced studio musician I'm contacted and hired to work on recording projects: for other musicians, artists, bands, and producers - to add keyboards (piano, electric piano, Hammond B3 organ, multiple synths, VST plug-ins of all types) as well as vocals.
I've worked extensively in recording studios in Atlanta, Ga., Charlotte, NC., Los Angeles, Ca., Nashville, Tn., and London, England.
My natural style is rock-bluesy-funky-R&B southern keyboard, but I'm competent on Country and Jazzy styles as well - my work is well noted on many recordings and my concept is to play whatever the producer and I think is needed for a particular recording - I like to think that I am well rounded, with touch and feel!
I can be heard on recordings from our band "Mose Jones", to rock legend "Ted Nugent", Southern rockers "38 Special", "Johnny Van Zant", disco rock legend "Alicia Bridges", the "Atlanta Rhythm Section", to the legendary folk singer "Joan Baez" - Blues/Jazz vocalist "Francine Reed" (Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton), and many blues albums for the legendary "Ichiban Records" blues artists (i.e., Trudy Lynn, Ben E King, Luther "Houserocker" Johnson).
These days it can be easier and cost effective to record remotely in my home studio (hardware is RME FIREFACE UFX II / software is CUBASE 13 Pro) and it works like this -
I receive your WAVE, AIFF, or MP3 file ( via email / WeTransfer / Dropbox / YouSendIt ) in my home studio...we discuss your ideas of what you want, I record my keyboard parts using a variety of real keyboards and virtual instruments, and then send you back a WAVE or AIFF for your approval!
We discuss my work (we can talk by phone or set up a Zoom call if we need live picture for a more accurate direction) and I usually give two free corrections, but I'll definitely work on your project until you're satisfied. Payment is sent through Venmo, PayPal, Zelle - It's really a very simple process!
